Translation, Dubbing and Subtitling Technology Focus at MESA Europe Forum

Published February 1, 2018

Language translation for localised entertainment content is often a labour intensive activity, given the very high quality demands of programme producers, their distribution partners and the viewing public. It is also an area where research has identified some major skills shortages.

As a result, the race is on to develop new techniques and technologies aimed at bringing more automation to the process, which will also help to reduce turnaround times and help alleviate some of the budgetary pressure the industry faces.

“We are delighted to be ‘showcasing’ some real state of the art initiatives and activities at this forthcoming conference” said Jim Bottoms, Executive Director of MESA Europe “ground breaking developments impacting Subtitling, dubbing and language translation will all feature” he added.

The event will take place in London on 1st March, and is once again attracting massive interest from across the industry. Confirmed speakers include BBC, Deutsche Welle, Deluxe, Edinburgh University, EIDR, Haymillian, Insight TV, iYuno Media, Ooyala, Sony DADC New Media Services, Take 1 and ZOO Digital, with more set to be announced next week.

The event is supported by the Content Localisation Council whose members include A+E Networks, BBC Worldwide, Discovery, ITV Studios, Lionsgate, NBC Universal, RTL Group, Scripps Networks, Sky, Sony Pictures, Turner, 20th Century Fox, Viacom, Walt Disney Pictures and Warner Brothers from among the content owning and distribution communities.
