We can expect some significant announcements relating to UHD content for the home consumer in January at around the time of the CES show.
Fox and Sony Pictures are among those studios that have already announced their line-up of UHD BD movies for 2016 and more will follow very soon. The supply chain is also ready to go, with announcements emerging on authoring, test and replication as well as an industry agreement on packaging. All of this bodes well for an early year roll out of the next generation BD format and we can expect to hear about some interesting promotional and consumer education initiatives, including a number of hardware/disc bundling deals.
Broadcasters and online content distributors are also rapidly moving ahead with plans to ensure that there is more UHD content available for 2016, and once again we can expect to see some interesting competitive plays as operators, large and small, look to build upon their product and service offerings.
Along with UHD comes a number of approaches to offering an enhanced audio and video experience for the home consumer and again there is certain to be a major focus on these initiatives very early in 2016.
MESA Europe is partnering with the British Video Association (BVA) and the Digital Television Group (DTG) to host a breakfast briefing in London to review the announcements that are expected at around the time of CES and to drill down on the implications and timelines for Europe.
Dolby, Rovi and the DTG are all confirmed participants for the Post CES Review and UHD Update event and Dolby has agreed to host the event at the Ray Dolby Theatre in Soho Square.
Seats in the theatre are strictly limited so early registration is advised.
